Spring is peeking around the corner even if the weather does not feel like it. March should bring warm weather and a favorite, Spring Break from March 15-19. The end of February and March also brings many activities to give one the opportunity to experience RCE and the PTA.
Join your children on Friday, February 26 for the popular "Texas Day" celebration. Watch and join in as your children demonstrate their square dance skills during their Specials time. Also, we are excited to participate in the Soles4Souls Shoe Drive. Any type of shoe is accepted-cleats, flip flops, dress shoes, baby shoes…all types. The shoes will be shipped to the Soles4Souls Alabama warehouse. Soles4Souls will sort/repack and ship the shoes to Haiti in their containers first and then globally as needed. Donation containers will be outside the gym so please bring your donations for the shoe drive to the Go Texas Day celebration.
Our March PTA meeting falls on Friday, March 5 at 9:30 a.m. in the KIVA. Our pre-meeting presentation will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will cover information regarding testing and grading. Ms. Linda Kleb, our new assistant principal, will share this information with our membership. So if you ever wondered about TAKS, benchmarks or grades, please join us for this informative presentation. Please stay for the PTA meeting that begins at 9:30 a.m. This meeting is very important. The 2010-2011 RCE PTA Executive Board Slate and our updated By-laws and Standing Rules will be presented. Both items will be voted on at our April Meeting. We will be voting on various Project Review matters and will discuss volunteerism. We will also have the popular student produced video and works.
The same day as our meeting will be the Pre-K Rodeo Day. Pre-K parents are encourage to attend this fun event that involves the students enjoying western activities. March 9 is the 1st grade performance of the play, "How Does our Garden Grow?" The first graders have been working hard and preparing for this special performance. All are invited to see this delightful play.
On March 25, grab your running shoes and join your child on the RCE Track. We will begin our RCE Geography Running Club that will meet on Thursdays from 3:05 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. This is a parent-child activity and will meet for six weeks. At each session, we will enjoy a five minute fitness talk from Becca Howard or Elizabeth Snelling then enjoy running around the track. For each mile run (4 laps), the children will get credit for a 100 miles on a US Map. The children will mark their progress on the US Map that will be hung in the Gym. Help your child run coast to coast. Do you need a goal to get you out on the track? We have just the goal for you. The running club will get you ready for the May 1 SBISD Running for the Arts Fun Run that benefits the fine arts programs in the district. Our school directly benefits, and funds from this event support fine arts field trips that our children enjoy. Hope to see you on the track.
