A message from Athena.…
It’s that time of year again , when our ‘to do’ lists include back to school shopping and signing up for after school activities. Some of us are looking forward to the routine of school and others wish the ‘dog days’ of summer would remain indefinitely. Either way, it’s time to gear up for the 2011-2012 school year.
As a native Houstonian, and one that grew up in this area of Houston, I am grateful to be a member of the Rummel Creek Elementary community and to serve the PTA as President this year. My children have been attending RCE since 2004, and will continue to do so, until the last one graduates in 2016. I often refer to our community as a village, and I would not trade being a member of our village for anything!
I am incredibly fortunate that we have an extraordinary ‘corps’ of volunteers. These are the hardest working group of parents I have met!  You will see them…everywhere, and those that you don’t see, make an invaluable contribution as well. Every minute of their time donated to the RCE PTA, whether it is sending e-mails from home , making calls and other behind the scenes duties, enables our village to function at its peak performance. Our purpose, as a PTA, is to promote the welfare of children, by bringing the relationship between the home and school closer together to foster an environment where they may reach their highest potential. No one person can fulfill this goal alone.  It takes a village, thankfully!
Gratefully,
Athena V. Cashiola
